The DT Trainer 2.0.6.2 version is now available for download from www.dttrainer.com/updates.html (updated link) and is now shipping on new orders.

AES is happy to announce the release of a major new feature.

The DT Trainer now incorporates an assessment capability. Now you can perform pre, post, or other tests of any program in the DT Trainer. The assessment capability will help make on and off computer instructional time more efficient and effective by eliminating unnecessary teaching and by indicating where additional setting teaching needs to occur.

Access to the new feature is from the student’s program list. Select the desired program and select the “Test” button. You can easily configure which program items you want to test and if you want to provide reinforcement during the test.

The test report allows you to compare the results of the performed tests. The test report will be useful in planning instruction and be valuable documentation for IEPs and other educational goals.

Potential uses of the new assessment feature:

1) Perform a pre-test to determine if the student needs to learn the content program on the computer.

2) Perform a post-test (after learning the program on the DT Trainer) as an additional verification of the student’s knowledge.

3) For topics learned off the computer or in other programs, perform a test to check for automatic generalization or if you need to use the DT Trainer to help facilitate generalization.

4) For topics learned on the DT Trainer, compare tests with the DTT to tests off the computer to determine if automatic generalization occurred of if multiple settings need to be taught.

5) Assess related programs in the DT Trainer to determine if the student needs to work on them.

6) The student’s performance on the tests will help you determine if the content program needs to be used for lead teaching, generalization, or maintenance.

7) Combine the configurability of the DT Trainer with the assessment feature to determine the student strengths, weaknesses, and best educational settings.

8) Researchers will benefit from the assessment feature to clearly document the student’s capabilities at different points.

Best wishes,
Karl Smith
