Utilizing scientifically validated treatment procedures, Eden II Programs has been a leader in the effective intervention and education of individuals with autism over the past 30 years. In an effort to disseminate sound information about autism spectrum disorders and provide training and support, Eden II Programs and Accelerations Educational Software will offer the following workshop. Using Video Modeling and Activity Trainer©
The use of computer technology is an effective method for teaching individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as other challenged learners. More specifically, video modeling has been shown in the literature to be an effective intervention. Using this method, objectives can be task analyzed, repeated, and expanded with ease. Activity Trainer is a computer program which incorporates video modeling into a user friendly and systematic program. During this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to use video modeling strategies via Activity Trainer programming. Participants should bring a laptop. A trial version of Activity trainer will be provided.

PRESENTERS:
DANA BATTAGLIA, M. Phil, CCC-SLP
Dana Battaglia received her Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from C.W. Post/Long Island University, and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. She is a licensed Speech Language Pathologist and Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped in New York State. Ms. Battaglia holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). She has conducted presentations on autism and speech-language related topics at the local, state and national levels. Ms. Battaglia has worked in a variety of settings, including private and public schools, private practice, and Early Intervention. In addition, she serves as an adjunct professor at local universities on Long Island. Currently, Ms. Battaglia is working as a Clinical Coordinator of Outreach Services at the Eden II/Genesis Program, while purs uing her Doctoral studies at the City University of New York in the Speech and Hearing Sciences.
KARL SMITH
Karl Smith is an engineer, father of a child with autism, and founder of Accelerations Educational Software (AES). Mr. Smith has helped develop software for AT&T, NCR, Sandia National Labs, Tennessee Valley Authority, Los Alamos National Labs, and the United Nations. When Smith’s son was diagnosed with autism, Mr. Smith turned his efforts toward making a difference for autism. Smith’s company first introduced the DT Trainer to allow even very low functioning individuals with autism to be able to learn independently at least some of what we need them to know. The product is now used in over 900 school districts, over 240 private schools and service providers, and thousands of homes. Smith’s second educational software package is the Activity Trainer, software designed to make Video Modeling practical and common practice in our educational system.
